Smurf Lore

A Journey Through the Mountains of a Molar

Today I invite you on a storybook journey, to a magical place where every smile has a history.

Watercolour illustration: a tiny Smurf at the foot of a giant molar turned into a mountain, with pines on its slopes and a cave spring at its base.
Three apples tall, at the foot of a molar the size of a mountain.
We stop first in Dobrogea,

We stop first in Dobrogea,

the land of the oldest mountains in Romania. They are not the tallest, nor the most imposing, but they hide a beauty that time has polished patiently: gentle ridges, quiet valleys and paths that slip between the rocks.

Now close your eyes for a moment…

And imagine that, like a Smurf, you become so small that you could walk on the surface of a molar.

Now close your eyes for a moment…

Surprise!

Under your feet there is no plain, but a real mountain range.

Rounded hills, ridges of enamel, deep valleys and narrow trenches

make up a landscape that nature drew long before we were born.

The surface of a molar seen from above: rounded cusps, valleys and fissures, like a mountain range.
Three fuzzy, funny bacteria drawn as little monsters, standing in a valley of enamel.

Every valley has its purpose. Every height helps food find its way while you chew.

But just as mountains have hidden places the light barely reaches, these valleys can shelter small uninvited travellers: bits of food and bacteria. If they stay too long, they slowly begin to dig, until the first cavity appears.

A large magnifying glass over a valley between the cusps, with the bacteria hidden inside it.
A Smurf holding a shield with a tooth painted on it.

Happily, we can look after this wonderful land.

A sealant is like an invisible shield that protects the deepest valleys without changing the beauty of the mountain.

A sealed molar with a small blue tooth flag planted on its summit.

Because every little molar tells a story.

And we make sure its story has a happy ending.
